#1 Brands: It's Just One Big Tie Right Now
With only two films reaching the number one spot in sales so far in 2010, it's no surprise there is not a clear leader in our brandcameo listings. Interestingly, if the hero in Dear John had been in the Marine Corps instead of the Army, the cameo would have made the US Marines the leading brand of 2010 – certainly an unexpected result.
Several local brands stole scenes in the North Carolina-located film. Charleston's legendary Mr. Coolie's
ice cream truck featured prominently. Also, local Charleston eatery Bowens Island Restaurant made a showing as the site of the lovers' first date. It's a brandcameo that could boost the restaurant's popularity.
One brand that completely missed out on its big onscreen moment was the watch worn by the war hero, John. In scene after scene, the chunky, round, rubbery timepiece made its presence known. Yet, with no identifying brand names or marks it was nearly impossible to tag. It's a fate that often befalls brandcameos made by watches and sunglasses brands.
