Alcoholic Energy Drinks: Menace to Sobriety?

More and more schools are clamping down on them..... as more and more kids are drinking them. It's a no-win situation.
Jessica R. - October 30, 2010

Brands need to be more socially conscious. I am sure that the parent companies wouldn't have gone bankrupt if this category of Caffeinated Alcoholic Energy Drinks were not innovated by some smart B-School passout. Let kids be kids. Innovate

This is just plain dangerous even for the 21 and over crowd.
Richard Karsten, Creative Director, Karsten Creative LLC - October 31, 2010

Like it or not, issues of social responsibility are increasingly becoming frontburners, particularly when one comes to appreciate the amount of information and epowerment at the disposal of today's consumer. This is again coupled with the realization that brands and companies will only continue to be held accountable for the externalities they generate, even as consumers world over are becoming more helath-conscious (while advocacy groups and NGOs are gaining more influence) ........Prior to now, there has been a considerable backlash against many of these 'energy drinks'. Brands need to be socially responsible as far as marketing is concerned.
Tomi Ogunlesi, Strategy Planner, Bates Cosse - November 1, 2010

"Alcohol is more dangerous than drugs like cocaine and heroin" that is what 'Lancet' the leading medical journal published recently. The brand is already being critisized, for its negligence towards health and safety standards, in US. "Promote addiction, make money and to hell with social responsibility" seems to be the underlying objective of such brands ostensibly they are energy drinks. But from a marketer's point of view the strategy will work for the brand if not on campus but off the campus. The brand will certainly leverage the ongoing buzz about it.
Asad Humayoon, Product Marketing Manager, Khimji Ramdas - Muscat - November 2, 2010
