Did Nike Shoot Itself in the Foot?
 
 Not at all - how often does an iconic brand connect with a cult following as big as BTTF?Also sets the stage for a second release of the shoe to the masses.

 You're always going to have a few complainers, no matter what you do. I supported Obama in the last election. He had campaign dinners that were thousands of dollars a plate — more than I could afford. I understood it was a fundraiser not a rally. I think consumers will see this as a fundraiser, not an over-priced pair of shoes. And, assuming Nike eventually sells them to the public at a reasonable price, the brand will have a boost from celeb association and philanthropy.

 I think the viral campaign was a huge success. However, it is a little disappointing to hear that the shoes are only available for this auction for charity. But Nike will see how much of a cult following this shoe has and will most likely, by 2015--the year McFly was in the future--Nike will have a release of this shoe to the public. In three years the technology to produce this shoe should be viable. Then everyone will be happy. Hopefully...

 it is not nike's fault that the rich and famous are also after these kicks. to all those that can't afford to win any of the auctions, just wait for the knock-offs :)

 I agree that the viral campaign was, by and large, considerably successful....note that successful brands (and campaigns!) will always have backlashes.....if not for anything ther than the realization that activism has in itself become an 'industry', and bloggers/pressure groups are waiting in the wings to kick up dust regarding almost any issue!
