Cause-Related Brands: Effective?

And are some charitable brands "better" than others? Some brands, like Newman's Own, donate 100 percent of its post-tax proceeds.

Seems like many of such efforts are to publicize what was originally (or traditionally) a good non conscpicious intention? Parading a notion of being 'social consciousness' makes me wonder how genuine such intent is.

Buylesscrap.com has expressed in words, pictures and ideas what's been bothering me about corporate chairity. Perhaps I'm old-fashioned, but I think giving is done without fanfare, as one's obligation to fellow humans.
A. Muldavin, artist, self-employed - March 4, 2007

As branding experts I believe we can find a way to build a better and more sustainable model for these brands.
Elizabeth Henderson, CCO, Thinc - March 4, 2007

Why so cynical? Must we now measure good intentions by the percentage of money gained or donated? In these contexts, every little bit does help, whether its AIDS awareness or fighting heart disease: call it CSR...and measure its effectiveness.
