Will Mountain Dew’s Interactive Ink Messaging Fuel Obesity?

Posted by Sheila Shayon on August 16, 2012 02:04 PM

Mountain Dew is now available in a new can, features color-changing artwork, one-third larger than their traditional 12-ounce offering. The limited-edition 16-ounce can, when chilled to 46.4 degrees Fahrenheit, highlights a symbol that transforms to the signature green color of Mountain Dew by using thermochromic ink.

Chromatic Technologies Inc. (CTI) has refined the process of temperature-activated inks, creating a cornucopia of opportunities such as hidden messages in package designs, signaling of cold temperatures, indicators of product levels or extensions, and above all, brand messaging.

A broad range of brands including Anheuser-Busch, Coca-Cola Canada, Coors, Hallmark, Monster Energy, Pizza Hut and Tuaca Liqueur have used the technique, and now Mountain Dew is courting an interactive color experience with consumers. Continue reading...

Nielsen's Most-Liked New Ads of 2011

Posted by Sheila Shayon on December 23, 2011 04:05 PM

Nielsen this week released its list of the top advertisements of the year.

“The lists demonstrate that reality and scripted shows continued to find innovative ways to integrate brands into their broadcast primetime programming. The best liked ads reflect the enduring value of traditional ad elements that have withstood the test of time – strong creative, simple and engaging messaging, and a solid emotional connection,” says Nielsen in a blog post.

The commercials must have aired in U.S. primetime on a broadcast channel any time from Jan. 1 to Nov. 30, 2011. The Likeability Score is the percentage of TV viewers who report to like “a lot” an ad they were exposed to during the normal course of viewing TV, with these scores indexed against the mean score for all new ads during the period (Likeability Index). (100) equals average.

The #1 best-liked ad is Volkswagen's Star Wars nod of a Super Bowl ad ("The Force," or as many called it, "Little Darth Vader") for its new Passat, at top, which scored 231 on Nielsen's Likeability Index. Read about the rest of the top 10 below.Continue reading...

FEED Bags Clarins Partnership

Posted by Barry Silverstein on July 5, 2011 12:30 PM

Lauren Bush's FEED USA campaign, which raises money to improve school food programs across America, last crossed our transom when it produced "Made in USA" bags for Gap that turned out to be made in China, and Gap duly apologized for the gaffe.

Now another retailer, Nordstrom, is offering an exclusive FEED bag, to support the activist's (that's her at right) global FEED Projects program, with French beauty brand Clarins on board.

This bag, dubbed FEED 15, is a makeup bag rather than a tote bag, however. It contains Clarins body lotion, hand cream and lip gloss and will be available for $30 starting July 15th at Nordstrom and on the FEED web store and starting August 1st at Clarins.com.

To extend the exclusivity even further, in October, Bloomingdale's will offer a similar FEED 25 bag. The "15" and "25" on the bags indicate the number of children fed around the world with the purchase of each bag, according to WWD.Continue reading...
