Advil Aids Jon Bon Jovi's Relief Efforts

Posted by Sheila Shayon on December 16, 2011 11:08 AM

Jon Bon Jovi’s new movie “New Year’s Eve,” including a stinging slap by actress Katherine Heigel, coincides with his first endorsement of a product in his 30-year career – pain relief from Pfizer’s Advil.

Shot at the Jon Bon Jovi Soul Kitchen, his non-profit community kitchen in Red Bank, N.J., the rocker’s testimonial is part of The Advil Stories campaign launched last year, TakeAdvil.com.

The gist of the campaign is that pain has no prejudice, disrupting all our lives equally — even if you're a rock star/actor/community activist running a not-for-profit restaurant. “Pain does not have much of a place in my life. I checked the schedule and it’s not on it. You never know when Advil is needed,” says Bon Jovi in the TV spot.

How the celebrity brandmatch came about? While on tour last year, the Jersey-proud rocker injured his calf muscle and told a reporter he used Advil for relief. Advil, naturally, contacted him to tell his story.Continue reading...

Jon Bon Jovi Feeds His Soul, and Others', in New Jersey

Posted by Sheila Shayon on October 24, 2011 11:10 AM

Jon Bon Jovi’s Soul Kitchen is an example of what can happen when “a painter, a student, a local builder and a rockstar work together, that's what we call the power of we making a difference," as the New Jersey born rock star says in a promotional video.

The star rocker and his wife Dorothea opened the restaurant in their hometown of Red Bank, New Jersey, serving gourmet dishes with ingredients in the restaurant's garden. There are no prices listed on the menu, just a suggested $10 donation for a meal. The Bon Jovi “community kitchen” is redefining the issue of hunger as customers leave whatever they choose in envelopes on the table.

For those who can’t pay or prefer to donate their time, volunteers are welcome for every facet it takes to run a restaurant from setting the table to washing the dishes. Volunteer work earns an individual a certificate that can be exchanged for a meal at The Soul Kitchen.Continue reading...
