Funny or Die has tapped a droll troupe of Hollywood talent — Zach Galifianakis, Sarah Silverman, Tracy Morgan, Chloe Moretz, Marisa Tomei and Isaiah Mustafa — to join forces with Bono's anti-poverty group ONE on a new campaign, part of a larger global initiative to reach "the beginning of the end of AIDS" by 2015. 

The star-studded video from Funny or Die asks viewers to sign a petition on ONE to reverse proposed budget cuts to the life-saving AIDS program, PEPFAR, and fulfill America’s commitments to the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria.Continue reading...

Gap Pitches 1969 Denim with $1.69 Tacos and Vintage Food Trucks

Gap promised that its new global branding campaign would bring an extra treat to U.S. fans — food trucks serving tacos in a handful of markets.

The event marketing, dubbed Pico de Gap, kicked off Monday in Los Angeles with chef Marcel Vigneron from Bravo's Top Chef (and now SyFy), with celeb guests including Jennifer Love Hewitt, Nikki Reed and Sarah Silverman.

Starting Friday, three other vintage food trucks will be popping up in downtown neighborhoods, music festivals and other gatherings in San Francisco (with another Top Chef alum, Ryan Scott, on-board), New York (food writer Katie Lee, another Top Chef vet as host of the first season of Top Chef Masters) and Chicago (chef Rick Gresh).Continue reading...

It's at the heart of a stand-off, as US Republicans and Democrats debate a Republican-backed proposal to cut more than $300 million in Title X federal funding for women's health care centers, including Planned Parenthood, that may force a government shutdown (another trending topic) at midnight tonight.

Find yourself in a state of baconstant craving? Denny’s is ready with six (make that seven) degrees of heaven: bacon.

The US eatery gave up its perch in Super Bowl TV advertising last month, so the quick-serve chain has been looking for other ways to make bold statements. Its “Baconalia” promotion may be just that.

With seven new bacon-tastic menu items and an advertising blast that it is unleashing this week, Denny’s is introducing Americans to a phantasmagorical array of new recipes with bacon. Lexus Woos Younger Buyers With CT 200h

It’s been a long road even in marketing-cycle terms for Lexus and the CT 200h hybrid – between a weird promotional gig with Sarah Silverman and the car now finally showing up in Lexus dealerships nationwide.

Remember nearly a year ago when Lexus hired the edgy and unpredictable comedienne to host a debate about global warming on behalf of the brand, at the New York International Auto Show? Neither does anybody else. But now, the Toyota luxury brand is hoping that by closing the circle on its year-long buildup and by actually easing into dealer showrooms, the CT 200h can provide a timely bump to Lexus sales.

Lexus has just launched a new national TV-advertising campaign for the car, which — at 42 mpg on the highway — Lexus says is the most fuel-efficient luxury car available.Continue reading...

Denny's Taps Jason Bateman and Will Arnett for Original Web Comedy Series

Last June, Jason Bateman and Will Arnett introduced DumbDumb, a production company backed by Ben Silverman's Electus to create original web comedies for brands, starting with Orbit gum.

Add Denny's to that roster with Always Open with David Koechner, a new web series that reinforces its "America's Diner is Always Open" campaign. It stars Koechner — who you may recognize from his recurring role on NBC's The Office — chatting with a cast of fellow comics that includes Bateman and Arnett, plus Kristen Bell, Sarah Silverman, Amy Poehler, and Will Forte.

Formula For Disaster?: Sarah Silverman, Global Warming – And Lexus

Maybe the stress of all the safety recalls by parent Toyota, worldwide opprobrium, and those nasty inquisitors in the US Congress finally have gotten the better of the marketing minds at Lexus. Maybe it’s a simple matter of not having done their homework. Or maybe Lexus brandmeisters are just feeling the headiness of a nascent recovery in sales.

Either way, the latest idea for a promotional gambit out of Lexus marketers is a doozy: Put Sarah Silverman – the foul-mouthed, dark-leaning, completely unpredictable comic and actress – on stage with a Lexus-provided microphone and let her moderate a “debate” about the merits of global warming orthodoxy.

But that’s what Lexus reportedly is going to do. The Toyota luxury brand plans to launch its CT 200h hybrid compact at the New York International Auto Show next week with a panel discussion about global warming, with Silverman serving as “moderator.” Journalist Amanda Little and producer Phelim McAleer are supposed to debate the opposing sides of whatever off-the-wall questions Silverman actually might ask them.Continue reading...
