P.F. Chang’s Extends Cool to Supermarkets

Add P.F. Chang’s name to the growing list of major restaurant brands that are learning how to extend their relationships with consumers through grocery stores.

Sales of P.F. Chang’s China Bistro frozen retail items climbed 117%, to $14.5 million, in September, suggesting that it’s possible for China Bistro to reach robust annualized sales of $117 million. And that’s just in stores measured by SymphonyIRI, which doesn’t track sales via Wal-Mart. 

P.F. Chang’s has joined other casual operators in chasing customers into the frozen food section at the grocery store.Continue reading...

The Big Apple: Less Salt, More Fulfilling

New York City is leading U.S. cities, states and national organizations making a commitment to the National Salt Reduction Initiative.

Spurred by the support of Mayor Michael Bloomberg, NYC restaurants and packaged food purveyors are signing up to reduce sodium in food by 20 percent over the next five years.

Concerned by medical research that indicates salt's role in increasing blood pressure and thus the odds of a stroke or heart attack, the public-private partnership with the American Heart Association has garnered a groundswell of support in area restaurants and businesses.Continue reading...
