Revelers Bring Halloween Treats To Brands Like iPhone, Burger King And Wii

Posted by Abe Sauer on November 2, 2009 10:29 AM

While final numbers are still out, it appears that Halloween spending this year will not be a victim to economic realities, with projected Halloween sales nearly 4% higher than last year, closing in on a total of $6 billion. But some brands benefit from Halloween without spending a penny on the holiday.

You know your brand has made it into rarefied brand cult territory when people start willingly dressing up as your products for Halloween. And no brand is a more popular costume than Apple's iPod and iPhone. Several years ago, iPod costumes could be spotted everywhere of varying degrees of quality. Now the iPhone costume is the new hot ticket.

A few other brands that have become iconic enough to spot out trick or treating? TiVo. Burger King. YouTube. And the Nintendo Wii. (Not too surprisingly, there isn't a Zune or Kindle to be found.) And one brand that has become so tied to its product category, it isn't even seen as a single brand anymore, but the very definition of its category: Little Trees.

A brand that enjoys life as a Halloween costume receives free promotion and grassroots brand championship, still the best advertising available.

Did you see any interesting brands out trick or treating? Send them to us and we'll post any good ones.
