Zac Posen's "Z Spoke" Hopes To Speak To Strapped Consumers

The latest line tempting fashionistas to spend whatever money they have left is a more affordable version of designer Zac Posen's usual.

He may have recently eliminated his company's Communications VP position, but Posen still hopes to stimulate the economy. WWD reports his new Z Spoke collection  will offer much lower price points than his main line, where costs range from $900 to upwards of $20,000.

Z Spoke will launch exclusively on Saks' recently rebranded fourth floor (now called WEAR), with an aim to expand to other stores.

WWD notes:

...he’s not looking to add to the glut of tough T-shirts and distressed jeans. “There’s a lot of that on the market,” says Posen. “I treat a T-shirt as a T-shirt should be treated. With a lot of love.”

Surprise! What he didn't mention is that such a love-ly t-shirt will cost $78.

The 61-piece line resulted from pressure on Posen to expand his brand and design a sportswear collection. Mr. P swears that “chic sportswear should be at this price point.” He also insisted this venture was not a “little sister,” rather an example of his breadth as a designer for breaking out of a cocktail dress comfort zone.

No offense, Zac, but I (and the average consumer) will probably still be looking for gold thread in those shirts.

It's a little shame this collection will be only distributed on Saks', with all my love, i don't have a shop close to my residence, so I'll need to travel to get my hands on that wonderful brand.
