The notorious rocker whose bird’s nest hair and husky voice inspired Lagerfeld’s 2007 Chanel line has moved to heritage sportswear label, Fred Perry. Amy Winehouse is designing an autumn line for the very brand whose iconic polo shirts she often sports.
The Fred Perry brand, spanning five decades, and most often associated with sports stars, mods, and rude lads, is collaborating with the soul singer on a 17-piece collection for women to be released next autumn. Winehouse has inked a four-season deal.
Regularly seen in the firm's iconic polo shirts, Winehouse will design jumper dresses, girlish twinsets, slim pencil skirts, Capri pants, and her variation on the Perry polo, inspired by her own, unique 1950’s style.
The range of celebrities associated with the Fred Perry brand is broad and long, including Ewan McGregor, Moby, Paul Weller, Peter Doherty and footballer, Vinnie Jones. England’s beloved tennis ace Andy Murray, helped fashion his Wimbledon tennis kit this past June.
Founder Perry was a three-time Wimbledon winner, a Davis Cup Champion, and started the brand with a Fred Perry tennis sweatband.
According to John Flynn, managing director of Fred Perry, "We have had a great relationship with her over the years as she has been a loyal fan and supporter." As for the predominantly black and pink design, "It's Amy all over – sharp, clever, sexy, lots of attitude – but stays true to the Perry aesthetic and unrivalled heritage."
Per the official website, Fred Perry once told royalty that his shirt was "the one that fits," and that "fashions may come and go but style is timeless."
