going mobile

Apple's iPhone launch yesterday may have not gone exactly to plan, given its antenna problems and delayed availability of a white version, but that didn't affect EA Mobile, a division of Electronic Arts, or Doodle Jump, a games app created by two Croatian brothers.
Even prior to the new iPhone's introduction, EA Mobile was dominating the Apple Top Grossing App chart for iPhone, with 12 of the top 20 titles. It also just launched on the iPad, above.
To celebrate the coming of the iPhone 4, EA Mobile announced "Premium Game Play," with mobile games optimized for play on the new phone.
EA Mobile, the world's leading wireless entertainment publisher, designed NCAA Football especially for the iPhone 4, taking advantage of the device's new Retina display. Players choose from over 55 of the most popular colleges to represent their school or create a new one to compete in the BCS National Championship.
EA is also sweetening the deal with a limited time offer, ending at midnight EST on Monday, June 28, that includes sale prices on some of its most popular iPhone downloads. Titles on sale include EA SPORTS 2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa, Madden NFL 10, NBA Live 2010, and Tiger Woods PGA Tour.
EA's Sims 3 was the #1 best-selling game on the Apple App Store in 2009.
Doodle Jump, without such a major backer, came out of nowhere to storm the app store.
As the New York Times notes, Apple doesn’t disclose competitor numbers, but its creators "believe this is the first iOS4 application to reach the five million download mark." Not bad for a tiny startup with a simplistic game, and no John Madden or other brand name to boost its awareness.
