Ritchie for Dior vs. Scorsese for Chanel

Posted by Shirley Brady on September 9, 2010 02:30 PM

The trend of getting film directors to create short films (aka branded entertainment) for luxe perfume brands continues with Guy Ritchie's just-released short for Dior Homme, starring Jude Law, a moody French model and a moody French capital, in Paris. Compare it with Martin Scorsese's short for Chanel's new men's fragrance after the jump.

Scorsese's collaboration with Chanel Bleu features a relative unknown (Gaspard Ulliel) and similar notes: French, moody, noir, dearth of dialogue, longing glances, mysterious femmes. Which short is more on-brand?

For comparative purposes, check out French director Jean-Pierre Jeunet's Chanel short (featuring Audrey Tatou), the trailer for Frank Miller's upcoming Gucci short, and Brand Beckham's recent perfume spot.

Chris Wadsworth New Zealand says:

This reminds me of the fantastic short films BMW did about 9 years ago. In fact guy Richie directed one of them.

BMW were way ahead of the curve.
