Three Stripes and You're Out: Adidas Wants YOU (to Wear a Tracksuit. Friday. In Public.)

Posted by Shirley Brady on November 15, 2010 01:30 PM

Adidas has just announced November 19 as its first annual National Tracksuit Day, with an Old Spice-referencing video by brand advocate Snoop Dogg. But will Sue Sylvester's Glee for tracksuits (Adidas or not) convince the average citizen to wear them to work on Friday?

Chris - designer, business owner and Adidas fan New Zealand says:

I don't need an excuse to wear my Adidas classic - I'm a 70s child. I'm not sure what your boss would say but as I run my own business all I have to do is make sure I don't have any client meetings on Friday.

These days there's a day for everything and they usually have a good cause attached to them. Are Adidas contributing to a charity or promoting a worthy cause or is it self serving advertising? To add to their brand value as well as build brand presence they may want to think about this.

Coach Kevin @ SupahFans Streetwear United States says:

My small business does a lot of genuine social work & charity, but I find it refreshing that Adidas just asks folks to wear their 3-stripped track suits to work without some charitable aspect. The NFL's pink jersey support of Breast Cancer in October is a transparent opportunity to tug at their purse strings don't you think?

S. Brady (brandchannel) United States says:

If by "tug at their purse strings" you mean the NFL is helping raise funs for an important cause — breast cancer research — why yes, Kevin... couldn't agree more. Smile

Coach Kevin United States says:

I'll be sporting my black/red track suit and hang my autographed Run DMC album (the 1983 one) in our streetwear store in Boston.
Will always support Adidas thanks to inspirtions like Run DMC & Jam Master Jay.
