Operation Payback's Target du Jour: Amazon. Make That: PayPal

Posted by Shirley Brady on December 9, 2010 11:00 AM

The WikiLeaks hacktivists who took down the websites for Visa and Mastercard yesterday appear to be aiming to knock Amazon.com offline today in retaliation for dropping WikiLeaks last week from their servers.

A cyberattack has been scheduled for 11am EST — even though Amazon UK is selling WikiLeaks' classified US State Department cables as a Kindle e-book.

Update: Amazon.com and Amazon.co.uk were still up at 11:15am, with both featuring a Kindle device on their homepage. The Guardian hears the Operation Payback data army's Amazon siege was shifted to PayPal's API — which indeed appears to be down.
