State Farm's "Like a good neighbor, State Farm is there" jingle has inspired fan versions in the past, but nothing like the update the brand commissioned from alt indie faves Weezer. Click through above to check it out on YouTube, and read on for the background.
The jingle cover — deemed "really, really good" by New York magazine's Vulture blog, and the usual mixed bag of comments on YouTube — is part of the brand's bid to build awareness with teens and college-age kids, particularly on Facebook.
Rivers Cuomo and his Weezer bandmates last month participated in a "Grantin' Wishes" social marketing campaign. Fans who liked State Farm Nation on Facebook were invited late last year to submit their wishes to the band, which were granted on tour — a viral bid to reach out to the band's young followers:
The brand — which recently invited LeBron James to breakdance for its Facebook fans — has been playing with its jingle in recent campaigns, such as this spot:
