Coming Soon: The Ryan Seacrest Channel?

Posted by Dale Buss on May 30, 2011 06:00 PM

During the season finale of American Idol last week, host Ryan Seacrest hit one of the few sour notes of his ten-year tenure on the show. In a segment in which Seacrest announced the giveaway of Ford vehicles to finalists Scotty McCreery and Lauren Alaina, as well as to each singer’s favorite hometown educator, Seacrest couldn’t resist calling his  guests “hot teachers.” And he also said something about the ladies primping themselves for being on the show.

But that was a little thing and understandable for a host who almost always has been light on his feet and dead-on in tone despite many verbal tangles with Simon Cowell and others’ jokes about Seacrest’s less-than-towering stature.

And it’s about the only thing Seacrest has done wrong lately, judging by the one-man entertainment conglomerate that he has become.

Ad Age just named him No. 2 on the magazine’s “Entertainment A-List,” the highest-ranked individual on the list because a show, Fox’s Glee, was named No. 1.

The magazine called him “the most ubiquitous presence in entertainment” as well as one of the highest-paid. In addition to Idol, Seacrest is Premiere Radio Networks’ morning host and is afternoon co-host of E! News Daily

The Ad Age profile also noted Seacrest’s talent for sneaking in product placements for sponsors including Reebok, Microsoft’s Bing and Coca-Cola.

So widespread are Seacrest’s interests and presence that he has been talking with bosses at Comcast/NBCUniversal about launching his own cable network since last year.

Come to think of it, there is one other thing we can hold against Seacrest: Keeping Up with the Kardashians, the E! reality show that his company produces. Talk about primping for the cameras!
