The Original Penguin Jacket Makes Cars Jump With Joy. Or Something.

Posted by Michael Waltzer on October 11, 2011 05:31 PM

Trending on YouTube today with just over 16,000 hits is the new short film by The Original Penguin Jacket titled, "Hot Rope."

What, pray tell, does this have to do with the Original Penguin Jacket? Absolutely nothing. If you listen to the narration, however, you glean that the retro brand has been around for a while, and still stands the test of time... unlike the car they used to jump rope with. This spot, along with three other videos, is part of a Facebook campaign for the brand.

As branded entertainment goes, it's a little gimmicky, but it's certainly generating buzz — if not sales. Along with the videos, OP's Facebook page provides an array of interactive entertainment. In the OPJacket Adventures tab you can view the different shorts mentioned above, pictures, read up on the history of the jacket, and check out an interactive map with more videos that showcase where the jacket has been over the years.

Interesting move, OP Jacket. It seems the trend of making commercials about ANYTHING BUT what they're actually advertising at all (thanks GEICO, et al) is spreading.
