Posted by Sheila Shayon on December 9, 2011 01:59 PM

The deadline is looming for entries for the 16th Annual Webby Awards: Friday, December 16th.

The Webby Awards, established in 1996, recognizes the year’s best websites, interactive advertising, online film and video, mobile and apps.

Reflecting the expansion of the Internet, IADAS has added the following new categories for your consideration:

Websites

  • Corporate Social Responsibility
  • Social Media
  • Best Writing (Editorial)

Interactive Advertising & Media

  • Best Copywriting
  • Mobile Advertising

Mobile and Apps

  • Utilities & Services (Handheld Devices)
  • Utilities & Services (Tablets & All Other Devices)

Cited as the "Internet's highest honor" by the New York Times (brandchannel won a Webby in 2003) the Webbys now comprise a 750-member body of web professionals reflecting the growth and breadth of the Internet itself:

Those web pros include Google's chief Internet visionary Vint Cerf, President & Editor-in-Chief AOL Huffington Post Media Group Arianna Huffington, Twitter co-founder Biz Stone, The Simpsons creator Matt Groening, Foursquare co-founder Dennis Crowley, Virgin-in-chief Richard Branson, Global Interactive Executive Creative Director Iain Tait, Weinstein Company Co-Founder Harvey Weinstein, and musicians Beck and David Bowie.

Media judges also include writers and editors from The New York Times, Wired, Details, Fast Company, Elle, The Los Angeles Times, Vibe, and Wallpaper magazine.

Last year’s 15th Annual Webby Awards received nearly 10,000 entries from more than 60 countries, 1.5 million votes were cast, and generated over 750 million media impressions worldwide.

"Our 2011 Webby winners spanned the industry's most innovative, practical and entertaining pioneers of today's internet," said David-Michel Davies, Executive Director of The Webby Awards. "If our 15-year history has shown us anything, the 2012 Webby Award entries will again surprise, educate and revolutionize the internet."

Submission info can be found at entries.webbyawards.com. Nominees will be announced in April 2012, and the Webby ceremony will be held in Spring 2012.
