Super Bowl Ad Tracker: VW Puts the Chew in Chewbacca with Star Wars Dogs

Posted by Shirley Brady on January 19, 2012 09:55 AM

Teased last night on Twitter and Facebook, Volkswagen released a sneak peek at its Super Bowl commercial, and it promises to be epic. It's another ode to Star Wars, recalling VW's 2011 "The Force" commercial featuring a mini Darth Vader for the Passat.

VW's description for this year's Super Bowl spot: A canine chorus barks a familiar tune. Keep an eye out for our 2012 Game Day commercial—it will all make sense. Love Star Wars and Volkswagen? Create an Intergalactic Invite to your Big Game party here: http://vw.com/star-wars-invite. Watch it below.

Some details about the teaser from VW's PR team this morning: "This video is not part of the actual 60-second spot that will be aired during the game. The Bark Side teaser was created to hint toward some of the exciting elements and characters that will be in the Super Bowl spot. The teaser aired on ABC’s The Middle last night, January 18th, at 8pm EST. Keep an eye out for the actual spot in the coming weeks. You can count on this year’s ad to continue to build on Volkswagen’s brand heritage of ‘human stories, told simply.’ This teaser ad and Volkswagen’s upcoming spot for The Big Game were created by creative AOR Deutsch LA."

Volkswagen’s brand heritage of ‘human stories, told simply.’

Oh please, we all know about VW's actual dark side brand heritage of putting an end to human stories simply. It is not like resorting to the oldest and standard repertoire of advertisement -puppies- was going to overcome that.
