Stefano Pilati Takes Final Bow for YSL

Posted by Shirley Brady on March 6, 2012 12:31 PM

Here's the final runway show by Stefano Pilati for Yves Saint Laurent: the YSL women's fall/winter 2012-2013 ready to wear line, which debuted last night at Paris Fashion Week to a mostly positive reception. Pilati, who was last week unceremoniously dumped by Yves Saint Laurent, is expected to be replaced by Hedi Slimane.

Despite calling his YSL bow "magic," the New York Times fashion critic Cathy Horyn commented: "Pilati is very talented — there is no doubt about that. He is sophisticated, knows about fabrics, and is daring in a way that gets results. But he was never the right person for Saint Laurent. He struggled with Mr. Saint Laurent’s legacy and with the colors, and he generally overthought the sexy bits."

Pilati, to his credit, carried on as if it was business as usual, and went out with a two-finger peace symbol salute to the audience.
