Things are going to be extremely busy one weekend in July at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway and the Kroger grocery-chain will be doing everything it can to make sure its name is attached to every element of it. The grocer will even act as the weekend’s florist and box-lunch provider, according to Sports Illustrated.
Kroger and the Speedway announced that the grocer will be the official title sponsor of NASCAR’s first-ever “super weekend” from July 26-29.
What makes this weekend different from all other weekends? Four races will be run there in four days, including the annual Brickyard 400.
A few firsts will occur as well: It will be the first time the Nationwide Series and Grand-Am race at the track on the same weekend and the track's 2.5-mile oval and road course will be used on the same weekend for the first time ever.
Kroger has sponsored the NASCAR Nationwide Kroger 200 in Indiana since 1982. It also sponsors a NASCAR Camping World Truck Series in Virginia, the Kroger 250.
