Burger King Kicks Out Celebs, Kicks Off Summer Campaign With a BBQ

Burger King today unveiled the post-celebrity kick-off to its summer campaign: "Barbecue Day." The description: "Summer time is all about great food, good company and fun! This is the time of year we all look forward to. It’s BBQ time friends! Let’s have a BBQ today at BURGER KING®!" 

Click here to watch its new commercial, and take a look back at its (somewhat) controversial, just-wrapped celebrity-studded campaign for its new menu below.

The debut of the celeb campaign kicked off on April 2nd with a Mary J. Blige spot that was pulled after being accused of stereotyping African Americans.

Also part of the initial celeb spots: Jay Leno

David Beckham

and Salma Hayek (in English and Spanish-language spots)—

Sofia Vergara appeared in a Spanish-language spot that premiered April 16th:

... followed by Aerosmith frontman Steven Tyler:

...and then a second Spanish-language spot for Vergara (training BK employees) on May 2nd:

...wrapping up with a second spot featuring Beckham (and a fruit smoothie mishap) on May 21:
