Should Nike rename the Paterno childcare center or stick to its decision?
Nike should NOT rename the center, just as they stuck by Tiger Woods
Paul Bradford - November 11, 2011
Seems to me that if a guy was the victim of rape when he was a kid, or his own kid was, he’d think twice about sticking to status quo.
- November 12, 2011
The name should change.

Nike should change the name of the center now, without hesitation. If you read the Grand Jury report it is clear that Paterno knew about Sandusky. Two people in the chain of command have been charged with perjury! Two major journalist are investigating a belief that The Second Mile charity was used to "pimp out" young boys to wealthy donors. From a brand perspective Nike should cut times immediately, aggressively, and definitively! This thing is about to get much, much worse.By the way, this is nothing like the Tiger Woods problem. Crimes were committed at Penn State. A known child sex predator was allowed to continue to rape, molest, and abuse children.

Penn State of Shame - November 13, 2011
Nike should immediately change the name. They can name something else after Paterno but to leave his name on a child-related center is a travesty. I couldn't watch football this weekend because all I heard was about Paterno and support for him. What about the victims? Child sexual abuse destroys lives. Are we willing to say that it is okay to destroy a single life for the sake of a college football program? Shame on all of us.

Big Ten has pulled Paterno's name; how long until Nike caves?
Petting Zoo - November 14, 2011
The Nike child care center is a (much-loved) employee perk. There's no reason it has to be named after anybody and no reason that taking Paterno's name off it would hurt Nike's sponsorship of the Penn State team uniforms. What parent wants to bring his or her kid there every day, walking under that huge sign? This mess is big enough that even many little kids will have heard of it. Not to mention that if one in six (or so) people have survived sexual abuse, then that means around one in six Nike employees, for whose benefit this center supposedly exists, have survived sexual abuse. Take JoePa's name off now, you tone-deaf clods.

Agree with the comment above -- maybe the Big 10 trophy renaming will persuade Nike to reconsider?
Yo Momma - November 15, 2011
I agree, this is nothing like Tiger Wood's situation. My perspective on this is from a national view and not a local view, which might be very different. I feel they should drop Joe. Here is my thought. Three years from now what will Tiger Woods be synonymous with? One of many athletes who lost themselves cheating on his wife. Boring. Take it up a level to Michael Vick. To this day I won't watch an Eagles game. He will be known as the guy who tortured, killed and set up dogs for the delight of .....grrr, sorry. Not so boring and a hit on the integrity of the NFL. Now up to the Penn State level, Joe may be connected with sexual abuse of young college boys by being a part of an insider protective shield for a child molester. Unless facts change the reality of that situation, Nike owes it to all of it's loyal customers to distance itself from him. Back to a local point of view, the customers might be offended by the name change. Nike has to think local (mistake) or larger then that.

Joe Paterno and the Penn State ‘brand’ was a complete sham. A money making industry using a fine state educational institution as a pawn. The players, contributors and fans have all been taken... and so has Nike.
Josh in Atlanta - November 16, 2011
They should not rename the center at this point. Everyone deserves an opportunity to give their side of the story, and we have not heard from several people mentioned in the grand jury report. The public needs to realize that we have a justice system that takes time to run its course and bring forward all the facts. Then we can draw conclusions from there. All the facts have not even begun to surface. The way this case has been tried in the media has been appalling and I'm sure even more hurtful to the alleged victims to witness. If the grand jury report had been handled differently, it could have averted much of the emotional pain many people are experiencing now.
