Jibe Aims To Connect Millennials With Jobs Via Social Networks

Localbacon, a 2009 TechCrunch50 winner, has relaunched as Jibe. The revamped site unveils a private beta site today – and the first 200 users who enter the code “Techcrunch,” will be invited to join. Jibe calls it the first “Employment Networking Platform,” and offers feedback capabilities and transparency new to the job-seeking/recruiting category.

The original site, a job board for college grads, charged 99 cents per job application. The new site still charges for applications, but via a credit system which links to social networks and “broadcasts” a job search across multiple networks. Profiles can be updated, personal messages sent and received, and credits purchased – $5 buys you 500 credits.[more]

Jibe connects to the usual social media suspects – Twitter, Facebook, and LinkedIn. But, through Facebook Connect, a person’s pertinent work data from their existing profile automatically fills-in a Jibe profile and allows users to check connections, request advice, or solicit recommendations. Job postings are ranked according to three criteria: views, saves, applications. Higher rank equals better placement in job searches.

Potential employers are charged $15 to access an applicant’s locked profile, and those profiles most unlocked hit the “leaderboard.” Piggybacking on Facebook’s inherent social graphing, Jibe becomes a recruitment tool for hiring professionals.

Companies in turn can enroll Facebook fans as “job ambassadors.” Geared to fresh graduates and those still in college, Jibe has made their proprietary algorithm available to college career counselors to help educate students about the job application process.

Having just secured a second round of investment for $875,000, Jibe is one to watch for 2010. The breakthrough value add for the new brand, formerly known as Localbacon – it’s almost always about who you know – and job boards with social media tools and rules are proving more successful than those without.
