Almost two-thirds (65 percent) of the world’s top 100 brands, as determined by Interbrand’s Best Global Brands report, now have an active Instagram account. According to Statista, nearly all of them post at least one photo per week, driving home the importance of brand engagement on social media.
In a year-on-year comparison from Q3 2012 to Q3 2013, Instagram presence of the top 100 brands grew substantially, with brands posting more often and collecting more followers. With 150 million active users and growing, Instagram has become a top destination for branded content, especially since the service introduced video earlier this year, as well as ads last month and private messaging just last week.

Nearly at year’s end, the ranking has remained much the same while brands continue to collect fans on the photo and video-sharing service. However, in the ongoing luxury auto battle, BMW has currently eclipsed Audi, with over 712,000 followers as compared to Audi’s 660,000, as of Dec. 20.
