Everybody likes to feel like a superhero from time to time, so Samsung is giving consumers the opportunity to have that sensation every time they check their mobile.
As part of its Avengers: Age of Ultron movie cross-marketing deal with Disney’s Marvel Entertainment arm, Samsung’s new Galaxy S6 Edge is coming in Iron Man red with gold trim, just the kind of flashy, high-class touch that industrialist playboy Tony Stark (Iron Man’s alter ego) would put on his mobile device. Iron Man’s face, meanwhile, is on the body of the phone, right next to a limited-edition serial number.
“The limited edition Iron Man Galaxy S6 edge embodies the power of the iconic Avenger with a dual-curved edge design and advanced features that will provide Marvel fans with the ultimate entertainment experience,” stated Younghee Lee, EVP of Global Marketing for the IT & Mobile Division at Samsung Electronics, in a press release.
Samsung, of course, is all over the latest Avengers movie, with its logo appearing on high-tech devices in the movie. The Korean mobile giant and Marvel also concocted a virtual reality experience to help promote their respective brands, with VR a hot ticket for studios including Marvel looking to new technology to push movie ticket sales—and Samsung eager to promote its Gear VR product.
CNET points out that there is one minor issue for fans who want to get their hands on the Iron Man phone—there are no plans to sell it globally. It goes on sale Wednesday in Korea and will be released in China and Hong Kong in June. So unless you are an actual a superhero and can get to Asia in a jiffy, it may be time to cash in those frequent-flyer miles.
