Virgin Hotels Chicago opened for business-not-as-usual in January, with Nashville, New York and Dallas to follow. Reflecting the character of its cheeky founder, Sir Richard Branson, Virgin Hotels is a branded empire that blends business, fun and innovation, the same recipe for success as with Virgin Atlantic and Virgin Mobile.

Yahoo Travel called it the ultimate traveler-friendly hotel experience, offering free Wi-Fi without bandwidth restrictions, no cancellation fees, early check-in or late check-out without penalties, minibars stocked at street prices and a free daily social hour for hotel guests if they choose to leave their chambers, or what you might call “room.”

Among the many awesome features its Chicago hotel property offers customers, Virgin is trialing a free delivery service for guests who order from a nearby Gap store. “Traveling can be full of unexpected surprises,” said Tricia Nichols, global lead of consumer engagement and partnerships for Gap, to WWD. “You could come to Chicago not prepared for the weather, or maybe lose your luggage, or maybe you want to go for a jog.”

The hotel’s Gap concierge service leverages the retailer’s click and pick-up reserve-in-store program for shopping online and picking-up in-store. Hotel guests in Chicago can access via Lucy, the hotel’s mobile app or by visiting to select and reserve items. The hotel concierge then arranges for delivery to their chamber within an hour. If the guest has a change of heart, any item can be left in the closet for return.

“Gap is always exploring new ways to respond to the many ways people shop, whether online, in store or on the go,” said Nichols in a press release. “Through this partnership, our goal is to provide shoppers convenience, ease and on-trend fashions, all through the touch of a button.”

The move highlights Virgin’s promise to cater to its customers in unexpected ways, while allowing Gap to highlight its digital ordering at a time when it’s closing stores and pushing its e-commece capabilities. And for hotel guests, it boosts the customer experience with another trusted brand providing convenience while on the road.
