JCPenney is driving mall traffic this holiday season with “Twas the Flight Before Christmas” — an in-store virtual reality experience powered by Facebook’s Oculus VR technology that shoppers can check out in select US shopping malls.
The virtual trip to the North Pole is in five stores only through December 24th: Bronx, NY; Columbus, OH; Glendale, AZ; and Springfield, VA.
“We hope to attract customers that may not have considered JC Penney as a shopping destination this season,” explained CMO Mary Beth West to Ad Age of the experiential marketing partnership with Reel FX.
The free immersive North Pole experience features the usual suspects—Santa, elves, reindeer, snowmen—along with brands such as KitchenAid and Nike in Saint Nick’s bag of goodies.
Participants also receive coupons or gift cards to America’s fastest-growing department store as an incentive to wrap up their holiday shopping.
