Cisco CEO Chuck Robbins says three things will define networks in the near future: scale, simplification and security. “In fiscal 2017, we continue to execute well against our vision of delivering customers a highly secure intelligent platform for their digital business,” Robbins commented on the company’s August 16th earnings call.

“We managed our business through a dynamic environment and at the same time delivered significant innovation to further accelerate the next phase of our transformation.”

The next phase of its transformation as Cisco centers around “The Network Intuitive,” Robbins adds.

“In June, we announced a new era of networking with the launch of the Network Intuitive. This is an example of the industry-leading innovation Cisco is providing to its customers. The Network Intuitive is a new intent-based network that creates a fully integrated intuitive system that is designed to anticipate actions, stop security threats in their tracks and continue to evolve and learn over time. We’re applying the latest technologies such as machine learning and advanced analytics to operate and define the network.”

Cue a trio of spots starring Game of Thrones actor Peter Dinklage to explain “The Network Intuitive” — “Introducing an entirely new era of networking. Constantly learning. Constantly adapting. Constantly protecting. The Network. Intuitive.” The campaign launched during the Game of Thrones season finale, although not on ad-free HBO.

“We have a long history of making significant transitions at scale,” Robbins says. “The most important thing we’ve learned is that with every transition, we must rethink everything we do. We see a tremendous opportunity to apply the latest technology innovations—from machine learning to artificial intelligence to advanced analytics—to the way we operate and define the network.”

“It’s been just over two months since Cisco unveiled our vision for the new era of networking, The Network. Intuitive,” Cisco CMO Karen Walker noted about the transformative marketing campaign in a blog post. “The response has been amazing. Employees, partners, customers, and influencers are all excited about what happens when a network constantly, learns, adapts and protects.”

“The more people learn what Cisco’s intent-based network can do, the more excited they get,” she added, “which is why we asked Peter Dinklage to tell the next part of the story. This next chapter is about helping businesses understand just how game-changing the new network is – and that Cisco is the only company capable of building that network.”

“In rethinking the network, we must move from a highly manual, time-intensive, often static approach to one that works with the future in mind — anticipating your needs, understanding your intent and continually learning from the context of all the data that surrounds your business.”
