Toys R Us Inc. filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection as the retailer, “loaded with debt” from a decade-old buyout, lost store traffic to the lower prices and convenience of online shopping. Toys”R”Us and Babies”R”Us will remain open through the restructuring. The brand’s flagship Times Square store closed in 2015 but just reopened as a holiday pop-up. As USA Today writes, “No one expects Toys R Us to disappear. But most experts agree it will need radical changes to survive.”

adidas passes Nike‘s Jordan Brand to become #2 sports footwear seller in the US behind Nike. Puma, meanwhile, signs Selena Gomez as brand ambassador.
