Pornhub Gets Black Friday Spirit With First Pop-up Stores

Pornhub Soho Black Friday pop-up New York 2017

There are so many pop-ups these days, it seems like virtually any business or category can create a temporary brick-and-mortar experience to engage with the public and create a stir. Case in point: adult streaming site is popping up in New York City’s SoHo hood with its first-ever retail store in partnership with the Museum of Sex.

A selection of official apparel, including recently sold-out capsule collection with streetwear brand Richardson will be available for purchase—putting the emphasis on what to wear, not take off—along with other branded Pornhub garments, Taschen books, Anne Summer toys, specialty aphrodisiac apothecary herbs and sex games.

Some of Pornhub’s most popular performers will be making appearances, including Dani Daniels and Asa Akira during opening weekend. The SoHo store will be open for one month beginning today, Black Friday, through December 20th, located at 70 Wooster Street in lower Manhattan.

“It’s much more of a brand store and a fashion store than a sex shop,” Pornhub VP Corey Price commented. “If we were going to make a retail store, we wanted to make sure we were in New York in SoHo, where all the fashion brands are. We see this as a fashion store.”

Visitors must be 18 or older, and its new neighbors on Wooster include Chanel, Céline, Ted Baker and Moschino.

Also on-site, at the back of the store, a faux-fur-covered bed where visitors can interact with a camera—no hanky panky!—that will livestream on

“We thought we’d have a way to incorporate the website into the store,” Price explained, before adding that the bed is “only PG. It’s a PG bed. We’ve been doing a lot more in terms of apparel … and we thought that fashion would be cool to do in an actual retail popup shop location,” Price told the New York Daily News. “People can physically interact with the brand of our products . Normally, it’s a virtual experience.”

Founded in 2007, the decade-old Pornhub says it has more than more than 10 million active members and calls itself “the premiere online destination for adult entertainment.” More than 75 million people click on every day to engage with its paid and free content—yet it still feels it’s lacking broader brand awareness.

As Price said, “As an online brand, we’ve been limited to interacting with our fans on the site and through social media. As we continue to increase brand awareness, and expand into new verticals, like retail, we are looking for new ways to interact with our fans. We thought it would be great to open up a store where fans can come check out the recent streetwear pieces we’ve collaborated on and some of our product lines. And what’s a better time to open up a new store than Black Friday? Now people can get gifts for friends, family and loved for the holidays!”

As a global adult entertainment brand, it’s also not just focused on North America. So European fans need not travel to the Big Apple — a “boutique” version of the popup is also opening in Milan, Italy, adjacent to Corso Como.

When asked if the Wooster Street pop-up is testing the waters for a more permanent New York-based Pornhub store, Price played coy, commenting: “Could be … we’ll see how it goes.”
