Diversity Watch: Brands Making Strides, Slowly, on Hijabs

Macy’s is making history as the first U.S. department store brand to sell hijabs. The Verona collection by designer Lisa Vogl includes modest activewear and will be available on Macy’s website.

Uniqlo has carried a line of modest clothing for Muslim women, including hijabs, by designer Hana Tajima for five collections.

Nike began selling a performance hijab for Muslim women athletes in December. It developed the product after Muslim athletes such as American fencer Ibtihaj Muhammad (who made history by wearing a hijab at the Olympics), complained about wearing a traditional head scarf during competition.

Muhammad has her own clothing line, Louella, and will have her own hijab-wearing Barbie this summer:
