brand glossary: versioning

Versioning is the developmentĀ and naming of various releases of the same, or like, products. A versioning naming strategy is particularly helpful when a product group needs to differentiate between new releases and upgrades, hierarchy of value (good, better, best), even or product relationships and features that work together across platforms. They are most often seen in industries such as automotive (e.g., car models) and in technology (e.g., OS systems) but can work in any industry where a simple and easy to follow naming system is needed.
